Principaux points à retenir :

  • Malgré les reculs provoqués récemment par les tensions géopolitiques, les actions latino-américaines dégagent un rendement supérieur en raison de virages politiques vers le centre droit, du cours élevé des marchandises et de la faiblesse du dollar.

  • La délocalisation à proximité, la hausse de la demande des consommateurs et la faible pénétration des services financiers créent des occasions à long terme dans toute la région.

  • Les crises énergétiques et la vigueur du dollar sont porteuses de risques à court terme, mais la dépréciation prévue de la devise américaine et les données fondamentales régionales devraient soutenir le rendement à venir.

Depuis 20251, les actions latino-américaines dégagent un rendement à celles des marchés établis et des marchés émergents dans leur globalité. Ces performances solides sont attribuables à plusieurs facteurs qui ont profité à la région.

Facteurs structurels qui appuient le rendement régional

Les changements politiques ont joué un rôle important dans l’excellent rendement relatif régional, puisque la montée des gouvernements de centre droit gagne la faveur des investisseurs. Par ailleurs, les taux d’intérêt réels élevés soutiennent la région, et la faiblesse du dollar américain stimule les actifs latino-américains. L’Amérique latine parvient généralement à tirer son épingle du jeu par rapport aux autres régions en période de faiblesse du dollar américain, et cette tendance est toujours d’actualité. La hausse du cours des marchandises a aussi contribué de façon significative au rendement régional.

L’Amérique latine n’est toutefois pas à l’abri de l’instabilité récente du marché : le conflit avec l’Iran a déclenché une correction importante dans des secteurs qui se portaient bien auparavant, ce qui a entraîné une forte baisse des actions latino-américaines.

Nouvelles possibilités dans la région

Un thème clé en Amérique latine est la montée des gouvernements de centre droit, qui a été systématiquement accueillie favorablement par les marchés boursiers. Cette vague de changements politiques a débuté avec l’arrivée au pouvoir de Javier Milei en Argentine et s’est poursuivie avec l’élection de José Antonio Kast à la présidence du Chili. Les élections d’avril 2026 au Pérou devraient provoquer un basculement politique comparable. Surtout, les élections présidentielles brésiliennes prévues en octobre 2026, qui verront s’affronter le président sortant Lula et Flávio Bolsonaro (fils de l’ancien président Jair Bolsonaro), s’annoncent particulièrement serrées et pourraient avoir des répercussions sur l’ensemble de la région.

Le cours des marchandises demeure un déterminant essentiel du rendement en Amérique latine. Le Chili et le Pérou figurent parmi les principaux exportateurs de cuivre du monde et sont donc bien positionnés pour tirer parti de la dynamique actuelle de l’offre et de la demande pour ce métal. Le Pérou exporte également beaucoup d’or, tandis que le portefeuille des exportations brésilien est dominé par les matières premières (notamment le minerai de fer et le pétrole brut) et les matières tropicales. Un maintien des cours élevés porté par la forte demande mondiale profiterait grandement à l’Amérique latine.

Dans un contexte de tensions géopolitiques entre la Chine et les États-Unis, alors que les entreprises s’inquiètent de leur résilience post-pandémie et cherchent à être de moins en moins dépendantes de centres de production éloignés, l’Amérique latine s’est imposée comme l’un des principaux bénéficiaires de cette restructuration de la chaîne logistique mondiale. Ce changement a accéléré la demande en matière de délocalisation à proximité, qui consiste à rapprocher la production des marchés finaux pour réduire les coûts logistiques, les délais et le risque lié à la chaîne logistique. Le Mexique est un pays particulièrement attractif pour plusieurs raisons : sa proximité géographique avec les États-Unis, ses coûts de main-d’œuvre concurrentiels, sa main-d’œuvre manufacturière spécialisée et l’infrastructure commerciale établie en vertu de l’Accord États-Unis–Mexique–Canada (AEUMC). Il faudra toutefois suivre de près le réexamen de l’Accord prévu à l’été 2026, car il pourrait avoir une incidence sur la compétitivité du Mexique et influencer les décisions de placement dans l’ensemble de la région.

Gestion des risques à court terme

Le dollar américain joue un rôle crucial dans le rendement des actions des marchés émergents. Il y a toujours eu une forte corrélation négative entre la vigueur de la devise et le rendement des marchés émergents par rapport aux marchés établis. La faiblesse du dollar américain tout au long de 2025 a été d’un grand soutien pour les actions des marchés émergents qui, comme le dollar américain, ont tendance à évoluer selon des cycles à plus long terme. Or nous estimons que le dollar américain est probablement entré dans un cycle de mollesse durable qui devrait booster les marchés émergents. Le conflit avec l’Iran a temporairement perturbé cette dynamique en faisant remonter le dollar américain.

 Si cette tendance se poursuit, elle nuira aux marchés émergents dans leur globalité. Les pays émergents, importateurs nets de pétrole, sont par ailleurs vulnérables face aux périodes prolongées d’augmentation des prix de l’énergie. Les économies asiatiques semblent être plus sensibles que l’Amérique latine aux crises liées à la montée des prix de l’énergie en raison de leur plus grande dépendance aux importations de pétrole du Moyen-Orient. Nous pensons que le conflit avec l’Iran sera de relativement courte durée. Mais s’il se prolonge au-delà des estimations actuelles, il pourrait présenter un risque.

Marchés et secteurs à fort potentiel

Nous pensons qu’à long terme, les occasions les plus attrayantes se trouvent dans les entreprises qui tirent parti de l’augmentation de la consommation intérieure et de la financiarisation des marchés émergents. Les entreprises du secteur de la consommation devraient profiter de la hausse des revenus, de l’urbanisation et de la formalisation des économies latino-américaines. Les sociétés financières présentent également d’intéressantes occasions à long terme. De nombreux pays émergents affichent de faibles taux de pénétration des services bancaires, des assurances et des marchés des capitaux, ce qui devrait favoriser une croissance soutenue de ces secteurs au fur et à mesure que l’économie se développe et que l’accès aux produits et services financiers s’améliore pour les consommateurs.

Sur ce plan, l’Amérique latine ne manque pas d’atouts avec une base conséquente de consommateurs de classe moyenne et une pénétration relativement faible des services financiers dans la plupart des pays de la région.

Les marchés nord-asiatiques demeurent eux aussi bien positionnés pour tirer parti de la forte croissance des investissements dans l’intelligence artificielle. De nombreuses entreprises essentielles au sein de la chaîne logistique de l’IA sont établies en Corée du Sud et à Taïwan, et bien que ces marchés connaissent un solide rendement et que les valorisations aient été réévaluées, les perspectives à long terme demeurent attrayantes d’un point de vue structurel.

Si l’Inde a accusé un retard par rapport aux autres marchés émergents en 2025, le pays n’est pas en reste et s’avère prometteur à long terme. Ses valorisations ne semblent pas très intéressantes, mais l’Inde fait toujours partie des économies qui connaissent la plus forte croissance, et son profil démographique favorable ainsi que ses nombreuses entreprises de grande qualité demeurent des raisons pour y investir à long terme.
